Tityassus not Tyra
Lot 1426
PISIDIA. Tityassus. Commodus, 177-192. Assarion (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.19 g, 6 h). ΑΥT ΚΑΙ ΚΟΜΟΔΟϹ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Commodus to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΤΙΤΥΑϹϹΕΩΝ Tyche standing front, head to left, holding rudder in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left. RPC IV.3 online 8076. Von Aulock, Pisidien II, 2237-8. Extremely rare. Somewhat rough and with minor deposits, otherwise, nearly very fine.

From the Skillman Collection, Classical Numismatic Group E-Auction 566, 17 July 2024, 277 corr. (misdescribed as Tyra in Scythia) and ex Classical Numismatic Group E-Auction 530, 4 January 2023, 462 corr. (misdescribed as Tyra in Scythia).

The coin was described in both previous CNG auctions as a (common) issue of Scythian Tyras, although neither the style nor the legends support this attribution. In reality, it is an extremely rare issue from Pisidian Tityassus, with only two examples known to date.
